Where outcomes go to die
In most operations, the documents that fail a check are the ones that disappear. The mismatched invoice gets forwarded to someone's inbox. The incomplete application sits in a folder waiting for a page that may never arrive. The questionable read gets re-keyed by whoever finds it first.
The straight-through documents were never the problem; automation handles those. The exceptions are the problem: they carry the money, the risk, and the judgement calls — with no queue, no owner, and no record of how they were settled. Work doesn't stall on the documents that pass. It stalls on the ones that don't.
Resolution: the exception becomes a work item
Resolution is what happens between a failed check and a finished outcome. When validation flags a document, it alone leaves the straight-through path. An exception opens in Outcome Workspace™, carrying what a person needs to decide: the document, its extracted data, the record it conflicts with, and the reason it was flagged.
The resolver doesn't start from a blank page. The evidence is assembled before the question is asked. The person reviews, decides, and records the reason; the decision, evidence, and reasoning are written to the Outcome Repository™ as part of the outcome — what got done with it, including the hard part.
The resolution path, end to end
Flagged
A check fails — a match disagrees, a field can't be trusted, a document is absent — and the item is flagged with its specific reason.
Opened
An exception opens as a work item in Outcome Workspace™, routed to the queue responsible for that kind of decision.
Evidence Assembled
Document, data, and conflicting record sit side by side, disagreement in view — the resolver sees the problem itself, not a notice about it.
Decided
A person makes the call — approve, correct, request what's missing, or reject — and states the reason as part of the decision.
Recorded
Decision, reason, and evidence become part of the outcome in the Outcome Repository™ — auditable, reportable, learnable.
The exceptions that land in the queue
Exceptions fall into a few recognisable kinds, each routed to the people equipped to settle it.
The mismatch
Two records that should agree don't: invoice quantity against goods receipt, contract total against the order. The resolver sees both and settles which stands.
The missing document
An incomplete file: a signature page never arrived, a certificate expired, an attachment is absent. The exception names what's missing and requests it within the work item.
The low-confidence read
The engine read the document but isn't certain of a value — a faint total, an ambiguous date. Instead of guessing, it asks: the resolver confirms or corrects the field before work proceeds.
The approval needed
Some documents pass every check and still need a human yes — an amount above threshold, a term outside the pattern. The exception is the approval itself, full record attached.
What changes for the team
When exceptions become work items, the team's hardest work gets easier to stand behind. Nobody defends a decision from memory, because the decision, the evidence, and the reason are on the record. Nobody's inbox is the queue. And managers can see the exception load as it is — which checks fail, on which documents, from which sources — instead of discovering problems at month-end, when a recurring mismatch has already pointed at the supplier, form, or rule behind it.
The platform behind the resolution
This site is a MaxxLogix LLC resource on Outcome Cloud™. It runs on MaxxLogix, built for documents and data — and for the outcomes they produce, including the ones a person had to finish.
Outcome Workspace™
Where exceptions land: work items holding document, data, and conflicting record side by side for an evidence-based decision.
N-Way Match™
Multi-way matching across documents and records — the check whose failures become the exceptions worth resolving.
Outcome Repository™
Where finished outcomes are kept — document, data, decision, and reason together, re-openable long after the fact.
Outcome Analytics™
Reporting on the exception load: what fails, how often, how long resolution takes, and where the patterns point.
MaxxOwl™ SI
The reading engine whose confidence levels decide what passes straight through, and what gets flagged for a person.
IDP Outcomes™
Document processing delivered as finished, measurable results — exceptions resolved and recorded, not quietly set aside.
MaxxLaunch™
Forms and portals for intake — submissions arrive as structured data, checked on arrival so gaps surface immediately.
SI Capacity
Capacity is published in SI Units, so what your plan includes is never a mystery. As your volume grows, adding capacity is always your choice — there are no surprise overage bills.
Frequently asked questions
What counts as an exception?
Any document that fails a check: a value that disagrees with a related record, a required document or field that's missing, a read the engine isn't confident in, or a case reserved for approval. If it can't proceed on the evidence, it's an exception — reason attached.
Does an exception hold up everything else?
No. Only the flagged document leaves the straight-through path; everything else keeps moving. The exception waits in its queue — visible, owned, ageing in the open — instead of stalling silently inside a batch.
What does the resolver actually see?
The document, its extracted data, and the record it conflicts with — side by side in Outcome Workspace™, disagreement in view, reason stated. Decisions come from evidence, not from a notification that something, somewhere, is wrong.
Where does the decision live afterwards?
With the outcome — decision, reason, decision-maker, and evidence, recorded in the Outcome Repository™ alongside the document, so an auditor can reconstruct exactly how it was settled.
Can different processes resolve differently?
Yes. Checks, queues, and decision rights follow your rules per process — an invoice mismatch isn't judged like a claim mismatch. The discipline stays constant: flag with a reason, decide from evidence, record the outcome.
